Gears of War: E-Day Developers Pleased Game is Not Coming to PS5
The creators of Gears of War: E-Day view Xbox exclusivity as an advantage because it allowed them to focus on a single hardware platform and achieve high graphical quality at 60 FPS with hardware ray tracing.
For The Coalition team, Microsoft’s decision to return to an exclusive policy became a source of pride. Creative Director Matt Searcy and Art Director Aryan Hanbeck consider the opportunity to present such a project confirmation of the studio’s technical prowess.
According to the developers, working with a limited set of hardware made it possible not to spend resources on adapting the game for multiple platforms and to squeeze the maximum out of Unreal Engine 5. Among the technologies used are MegaLights, which allows scenes to be illuminated simultaneously by hundreds of dynamic light sources, and Lumen global illumination.
“This is how we can ensure high quality,” the developers believe. According to them, impressive graphics, smooth animation thanks to the motion matching system, and photorealistic real-time cutscenes were made possible by prioritizing quality rather than trying to release the game on every competing platform.
At the same time, exclusivity creates commercial risks, as the game will need to demonstrate strong results among users of its own ecosystem to recoup its large budget. Early Steam data in early access point to serious success.
