Yakuza Creator’s Nagoshi Studios Reportedly Shut Down
Nagoshi Studios, founded by Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, has effectively ceased operations according to a VGC journalist, and development on Gang of Dragon has likely been halted.
After NetEase stopped funding the game, the studio found itself in a difficult position, with reports indicating that about $45 million was needed to finish the project. Subsequently, the Nagoshi Studios YouTube channel and the Gang of Dragon trailer disappeared, and the studio’s official website stopped working. At the same time, the company itself has not reported anything about the situation for about 10 months.
In a new episode of the VGC Podcast, journalist Andy Robinson stated:
Nagoshi Studio hasn’t been announced, but it’s gone. I’ve heard Toshihiro Nagoshi was recently even applying to other studios, so I think it’s fair to say it’s gone, and that’s very disappointing.
There is no official confirmation of the studio’s closure yet. However, if the information about Nagoshi looking for a new job is correct, Nagoshi Studios and Gang of Dragon have likely been shut down.
