Gearbox has managed to pull back somewhat from the wave of criticism aimed at Borderlands 4. That shift coincides with renewed interest in Risk of Rain 2 — the publisher has successfully gathered a substantial player base around the title.
The game has climbed into Steam’s top ten by revenue. At the time of publication, Risk of Rain 2 and the Alloyed Collective DLC occupy seventh and eighth places respectively, overtaking Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
Alloyed Collective continues to draw players. On Steam the expansion holds a “Very Positive” rating — about 95% recommendations from over a thousand reviews.
Some users suggest Gearbox could learn from Risk of Rain 2 when crafting new content for Borderlands 4. At present, Borderlands 4’s Steam rating has not climbed above roughly 60% positive reviews. The primary complaint is poor performance on the Unreal Engine 5.
Over the past 24 hours Risk of Rain 2 peaked at more than 47,000 concurrent players. The site Gamalytic estimates the game’s total sales at approximately 11 million copies.
