Ridley Scott Says Prometheus Revived the Alien Franchise
Ridley Scott has explained what motivated him to return to the franchise more than 30 years later.
Scott still considers the original 1979 Alien to be the best film in the franchise. In an interview with Brut, the director reflected on the subsequent fate of the series and stated that after Alien Resurrection, the franchise effectively died, prompting him to personally bring it back to life:
“I made the best one, period. End of the fucking story. Then they allowed it to die. After the fourth part, they killed it, and I thought, ‘I’m going to bring it back.’”

Scott’s return resulted in Prometheus in 2012 and Alien: Covenant in 2017. A third film centering on the android David, played by Michael Fassbender, is currently in development, though project details and a release date have not yet been announced.
