Retroid Unveils Chip and GPU for Pocket Nova Retro Handheld

Prospective buyers of the Retroid Pocket Nova handheld finally know which processor and graphics unit power the device. The console also supports the company’s dual-screen accessory.

Retroid continues to release details about the Pocket Nova as it prepares to compete with the Anbernic RG556 and Ayaneo Pocket Micro for the interest of retro gaming fans.

The manufacturer confirmed the device features a Qualcomm QCS8550 chipset. This includes one 3.2GHz Kryo Prime core, four 2.8GHz Kryo Gold performance cores, and three 2.0GHz Kryo Silver efficiency cores, paired with an Adreno 740 GPU running at 680MHz. The hardware supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3. These specifications aim to handle PS2 emulation at higher resolutions alongside demanding Android titles on the 4:3 display.

Retroid also addressed community questions regarding hardware compatibility. The Pocket Nova supports the dual-screen mounting accessory previously released for the Pocket 5 and Pocket 6. This feature provides a practical setup for those interested in emulating Nintendo DS games.
