PlayStation Fans Urged to Boycott Turning On PS5

The PlayStation boycott has officially ended, but organizers are urging the most dedicated participants to continue avoiding the PS5 until Sony changes its position on physical games.

Sony has not yet responded to the user protest. The campaign began on August 23 and concluded on August 30 at 7:00 PM local time. Participants were urged not to turn on their PS5 consoles, play games, or buy anything on the PlayStation Store.

The protest was triggered by Sony’s plan to end the production of physical game editions starting in January 2028. Organizers consider the past week to be only a minimum duration and are now proposing an indefinite extension of the boycott.

Representatives of Does It Play stated:

We encourage everyone to continue the protest indefinitely until Sony changes its approach. We must go all the way, or we will achieve nothing.

Sony has not officially responded to the protest. However, the company previously informed investors that it does not see any negative impact from potential boycotts on its business.

The actual impact of the campaign will become clear after the next financial report. Continuing the boycott will become increasingly difficult with upcoming releases such as The Blood of Dawnwalker, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Marvel’s Wolverine, Control Resonant, and GTA VI.
