Resident Evil 7 Runs at 30 FPS on Old Smartphone Using AI
Resident Evil 7 has successfully run on a OnePlus 12R equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 at a stable 30 frames per second, aided by artificial intelligence that helped identify emulation problems and optimize game data.
Initially, the smartphone ran the game at around 20 frames per second. After connecting the device to a Mac and enabling debugging mode, the Hermes agent powered by DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash analyzed the game’s operation and identified bottlenecks related to input/output and memory bandwidth.
The artificial intelligence suggested compressing the textures from 4096 down to 1024 and 512 pixels. The volume of required data dropped from roughly 25 GB to 8 GB, and after deleting unnecessary files, it totaled about 13 GB.
Additionally, Snapdragon Game Super Resolution was utilized, rendering the game at 720p and upscaling it to approximately 1200p. As a result, Resident Evil 7 operated at a stable 30 frames per second while consuming about 5 to 6 watts of power. During the test, the smartphone also recorded gameplay simultaneously, creating an additional workload.
The experiment demonstrates the potential of artificial intelligence to optimize emulated games by pinpointing specific issues and adjusting data and rendering.
