Yakuza Creator’s Nagoshi Studio Officially Shuts Down
Nagoshi Studio, founded by Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, officially closed on October 31, according to a notice in Japan’s official government gazette.
The studio was dissolved following a general shareholders’ meeting. The notice appeared in the gazette on November 2.
Nagoshi Studio was founded in 2022 with support from NetEase Games after Nagoshi left Sega and RGG Studio. At The Game Awards 2025, the team unveiled Gang of Dragon, a large-scale cinematic action game.
In March 2026, Bloomberg reported that NetEase would stop funding the studio. After development halted, the team needed another $44.4 million to complete the project. Shortly before the report, the studio had stopped updating its social media accounts. Its website became inaccessible in May, and its YouTube channel was deleted. Several key employees also announced their departures.
The fate of Gang of Dragon remains unknown. The game is still listed on Steam as “Coming soon.”
