Remedy Entertainment Registers Trademark for Familiar Alan Wake Title

Remedy has filed a new trademark application for “Alan Wake’s Return,” and while the studio remains silent on its purpose, an expanded list of goods is fueling rumors of a new game or screen adaptation.

Remedy Entertainment has registered the trademark “Alan Wake’s Return,” which has once again sparked rumors about the return of the franchise, although the purpose of the new registration has not yet been disclosed.

Control Resonant releases next week, and Remedy does not appear to be slowing down the expansion of its universe. The studio has registered the name “Alan Wake’s Return,” which it previously used in 2016. At that time, Sam Lake explained that the title referred not to a new game, but to a series of live-action video segments in Quantum Break.

The situation is different this time around. The previous registration expired in early September, after which Remedy chose not to renew it and instead filed a new application with expanded information. The toy category was removed, printed materials and clothing were added, and the range of digital content and products was broadened.

This has generated speculation about a connection to the Alan Wake and Control screen adaptations that Remedy is developing alongside Annapurna. At the same time, a new game cannot be entirely ruled out. “Alan Wake’s Return” does not confirm the development of Alan Wake 3 yet, as the studio has not revealed the intended use of the trademark.
