The Game Awards set a new participation record, but that milestone proved challenging for the organizers. The ceremony’s nominations were revealed a few days ago, and interest in the event grows each year.

This year brought a wealth of standout releases, and fans immediately began casting votes. The website was inundated with traffic, a burden made worse by issues affecting the Cloudflare platform.

Jeff Keighley reported that tens of millions of votes were submitted within the first 24 hours. While remarkable, the surge exceeded the site’s capacity and led to service interruptions.

Keighley said the situation is improving: engineers are working alongside teams from Google Cloud and Cloudflare to stabilize and optimize the platform. He also reminded everyone that voting remains open until December 10, so there’s no need to rush.
