Following the conclusion of The Boys on May 20, the Vought Cinematic Universe is far from finished. The franchise is set to expand with the prequel series Vought Rising. First unveiled in 2024 by writer and executive producer Paul Grellong, the show has been building momentum through narrative threads woven into Gen V season 2 and the fifth season of The Boys. For those eager for more cynical superhero satire, here is everything we know about the upcoming prequel, including its premise and projected timeline.
What is the premise of Vought Rising?
Vought Rising functions as a period-piece murder mystery set during the 1950s, chronicling the formative years of Vought as the corporation began monetizing superpowered individuals. The narrative centers on two familiar faces: the Captain America-inspired Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and the white supremacist Stormfront—known then as Clara Vought (Aya Cash).
Given that both characters derive their longevity and abilities from the experimental V-One compound, they remain central to the plot. Fans can also look forward to appearances from other ageless figures established in The Boys and Gen V, such as the enigmatic Vought scientist Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater) and the veteran supe Bombsight (Mason Dye). With both Soldier Boy and Bombsight once vying for Clara’s attention, a volatile love triangle appears inevitable.
Regarding the tone, Ackles shared that the project aims to honor the established lore while carving out its own identity, stating they aren’t looking to reinvent the wheel, but rather to build upon the brilliant foundation laid by the original series.
When does Vought Rising premiere?
While an official debut is slated for 2027, showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed that the first season is already scripted. He expressed optimism about the show’s future, noting that while the inaugural season provides a self-contained, satisfying resolution, it is designed as a gateway for much larger stories to follow, should the studio greenlight further seasons.
Is there any hope for The Boys season 6?
In short: no. The central conflict between Billy Butcher and Homelander has officially reached its conclusion, marking the end of the core series. However, the Vought universe remains a massive playground. With the cancellation of Gen V earlier this year, there is plenty of speculation regarding whether existing fan-favorite characters might migrate to future spinoffs. While a direct sixth season is off the table, the expansion of this dark, satirical world seems inevitable.
The Boys is currently available to stream on Prime Video.
