FuturLab has announced that the Final Fantasy VII and Tomb Raider expansion packs for PowerWash Simulator will be delisted this May. According to a statement from the developer, these removals are a direct result of the conclusion of their partnership with publisher Square Enix.
Players who currently own the Midgar and Tomb Raider DLCs will retain full access to them even after they are removed from storefronts on May 19. Both expansions are currently available to download at no additional cost across all platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake pack allows players to tidy up iconic locations and machinery, including the Scorpion Sentinel, a Shinra Hauler, Cloud’s Daytona motorcycle, the imposing Airbuster, and the bustling Seventh Heaven bar. Meanwhile, the Tomb Raider expansion invites players to visit Lara Croft’s estate, where they can scrub the exterior of Croft Manor, polish her boat, and organize her collection of artifacts. It essentially turns the player into a high-tech, digital custodian—a surprisingly meditative experience.
PowerWash Simulator initially gained traction through Square Enix’s Collective program, an initiative designed to provide indie developers with the resources and visibility needed to succeed. While the dissolution of this partnership might strike some as a major split, moving toward self-publishing had long been part of FuturLab’s roadmap.
“Our relationship with them was highly collaborative and productive,” FuturLab CEO Kirsty Rigden noted in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. “They were instrumental in amplifying our work, but ultimately, our long-term strategy centered on transitioning to a self-publishing model.”
The studio has since realized that ambition. Leveraging the insights gained during their tenure with Square Enix and the massive popularity of the original title, FuturLab self-published PowerWash Simulator 2. The sequel arrived in October 2025 to critical acclaim, earning nominations for both Best Family Game and Best British Game at the BAFTAs.
