Postal 2 Redux Developers Respond to Calls to Remove Racism from Game

Developer Running With Scissors has warned that players offended by the original Postal 2 will find Postal 2 Redux just as offensive.

The controversial classic is preparing for an updated return. Running With Scissors, Flat2VR, Team Beef, and Impact Reality recently outlined the release window for the Postal 2 Redux project.

Postal 2 Redux was originally announced last year alongside a Kickstarter campaign. However, some players only took notice of the remake after recent updates about its upcoming launch.

One user, posting under the name bee, argued that parts of the original content should be removed in favor of something more appealing:

I believe Postal 2 is the perfect game to make a remake of, because all this racism and disgusting political messaging scattered throughout the game makes playing through it simply unbearable! I would love to play a version that actually had something interesting. I always found the concept of a game where you can just roam around town doing silly stuff very interesting. It’s just a shame that this game was made by ******* racists.

Running With Scissors replied directly to the criticism:

There are plenty of other games you can play that were masterfully crafted to offend as few people as possible. If the original [Postal 2] offends you, then the remake will offend you just the same.

Continuing the exchange, the developers expanded on their stance:

You want the game remade to fit your specific needs, paying no attention to the opinions of everyone else. It seems that Postal is not for you, yet you are still trying to impose your opinion […] It’s funny discussing Postal with people who have barely completed a single entry in the series, but are so eager to complain about these games.

Other users in the discussion raised questions regarding violence and weapon handling in video games, citing claims that games teach people how to shoot.

The studio pushed back on that argument as well:

A game will not teach anyone how to properly shoot a gun—at least not a regular game. Anyone who says, “The game made me kill someone,” has mental health issues. No sane person would blame their monstrous actions on any form of media.

Postal 2 Redux is scheduled to launch in spring 2027 on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, with support for VR platforms. Built on Unity 6, the remake will introduce various gameplay and technical improvements, including the elimination of loading screens and fixes for crash-inducing bugs.
