PlayStation 3 Emulator Performance Increases by up to 25 Percent on NVIDIA GPUs

There were no such issues with AMD graphics cards.

In September, the developers of the popular PlayStation 3 emulator known as RPCS3 announced that they had achieved a significant performance increase on PCs equipped with NVIDIA graphics cards.

Representatives of the RPCS3 team stated that this became possible thanks to a project contributor named Yahfz f. He proposed a solution that provided a major performance boost in many PlayStation 3 games.

As an example, the developers cited a scene from Red Dead Redemption:

• On a setup featuring an Intel Core i9-13900K processor and a GeForce RTX 3080 class graphics card, the frame rate increased by 20%
• On an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and a GeForce RTX 5090, the frame rate increase reached up to 25%

Yahfz f fixed a specific issue related to the NVIDIA driver. The developers clarified that AMD graphics cards did not have this bug.

The RPCS3 developers also conducted tests in another open-world game, Saints Row IV. On a PC with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and a GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, the performance increase was about 20%. Tests in Saints Row: The Third showed a boost of approximately 10%.

The creators of RPCS3 continue to gradually improve the project and expand PC players’ capabilities for running titles from the PlayStation library.
