Players Claim Bungie Used AI to Create Concept Art for New Destiny 2 Expansion
A social-media user published a detailed breakdown of the concept art for a new villain.
Bungie released a developers’ diary focused on the major Destiny 2 expansion Renegades, which is set to launch on December 2.
In the video, Bungie presented the expansion trailer, gameplay footage, new progression systems, gear, and story elements. The studio gave particular attention to Renegades’ principal antagonist — Dredgen Bael. In a short segment they revealed concept art of the character: a figure cloaked in red with a hood, hanging chains, and an electronic device on the chest. That image drew the community’s scrutiny and prompted some to speculate that Bungie used AI to create the concept.
User MGecko117 highlighted specific irregularities on their X page: chains that shift shape and become fabric-like folds; inconsistent rendering styles between the front and back; distorted electronics on the chest; a duplicated hand; an apparently handle-less light blade appearing out of nowhere; and overall texture mismatches commonly seen in AI-generated imagery.
