Players Are Just Waiting for Remasters: Sega Says It’s Found the Culprits Behind Low Sales of Its New Games

The company offered additional explanations to its investors.

During an investor Q&A following the earnings report for the second quarter of the fiscal year (ended September 2025), Sega acknowledged that game sales fell short of expectations.

In response to concerns about declining sales and revenue fluctuations tied to new releases, Sega representatives pointed to several possible factors: competition from similar-genre titles, inflated launch price points, and, above all, the players themselves—many of whom hesitate to buy new releases and prefer to wait for remasters with added content.

While we have not pinpointed the exact cause of the weak sales, we believe the issue also stems from our marketing, which failed to effectively communicate the games’ appeal to users.
