Many people either outright condemn AI or defend it uncritically.
The CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Shams Djorjani, urged a more measured tone in discussions about using artificial intelligence in games. In an interview for The Game Business podcast he criticized the polarizing positions dominating the debate, noting that far too many voices fall into extremes — either fully denouncing AI or supporting it without reservation.
The controversy was sparked by the uproar over Embark Studios’ shooter ARC Raiders, where AI was used to generate voice performances. Some players and reviewers — including an outlet at Eurogamer — accused the developers of unethical practices. Djorjani clarified that AI can enable actors to record voice models that are later used to generate additional lines for updates, avoiding the need for repeated studio sessions.
He also reminded listeners that studios have long adopted tools like Simplygon to automate asset processing that used to be handled manually. While those tools didn’t trigger widespread scandals, they did have an impact on employment.
