Polyarc, Developer of Moss, Is Shutting Down
Polyarc, the acclaimed independent studio celebrated for crafting the beloved Moss virtual reality and console franchise, has officially announced its closure, bringing a remarkable 12-year journey to a close.
The studio shared a heartfelt farewell message via its official LinkedIn account:
“After nearly twelve years navigating the incredible highs and profound creative fulfillment of game development, our shared adventure has reached its final chapter. As we wind down active operations, we bid a fond farewell to one another.
Collaborating all these years has been an extraordinary honor, and touching the hearts of players worldwide with wonder and joy was a true privilege. To everyone who has been part of the Polyarc family—our work is complete.”
Alongside the announcement, the studio provided a comprehensive talent directory spreadsheet to help connect its departing team members with prospective employers across the industry.
Polyarc initially captivated the gaming community in 2018 with the release of Moss, an enchanting action-adventure puzzle game that quickly became a benchmark for immersive VR storytelling. The studio subsequently expanded the universe with Moss: Book II in 2022, followed by this July’s launch of Moss: The Forgotten Relic, a traditional platforming experience that seamlessly merged both acclaimed adventures into a unified package.
Tragically, Polyarc’s shutdown adds to an increasingly difficult climate for game developers throughout the industry.
