Take-Two Chief Tells Journalist to Check the Facts Ahead of GTA VI Release
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick challenged a Wall Street Journal reporter’s suggestion that the publisher lacked enough major gaming hits, telling her to “look at the facts.”
In an interview, journalist Jessica Toonkel asked Zelnick about Take-Two’s prospects ahead of the release of GTA VI. At the 1:54 mark in the video, she suggested the publisher could face problems because it did not have enough successful game franchises.
Zelnick responded by listing the company’s achievements. Toonkel laughed awkwardly at one point, apparently not expecting such a detailed response.
We have 15 franchises, each with at least one game that has sold five million copies. I believe we have the best intellectual property portfolio in the entire gaming industry. That is reflected in our revenue, profit, and market capitalization. So my answer is: look at the facts.
Zelnick went on to cite the success of Red Dead Redemption 2 and the popularity of GTA Online and Red Dead Online. He also mentioned NBA 2K, which he called the second-largest sports franchise in the world and the largest in North America. Among the company’s other well-known brands, he listed BioShock, WWE 2K, Civilization, and Borderlands, as well as its mobile games.
