Digital Foundry Calls The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake One of Nintendo’s Best-Looking Games
Digital Foundry has praised The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake for its graphical improvements and stable 60 FPS performance on Nintendo Switch 2.
The team examined the game’s graphics, resolution, animation smoothness, and technological changes. Digital Foundry said the remake impressed with its atmosphere, showed what Nintendo Switch 2 can do, and could become one of the Japanese company’s most beautiful games.
Digital Foundry paid particular attention to image quality. Nintendo likely used an improved version of the technology from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, making materials more realistic and lighting more complex. Stone buildings, vegetation, and metal details look excellent. Many locations have also changed, with developers retaining their familiar layouts while increasing their scale.
Performance is the standout achievement. Switch 2 maintains an almost perfect 60 FPS in both TV and handheld modes. By comparison, the original Nintendo 64 version ran at 20 FPS. Resolution ranges from 1080p to 1440p on a TV and from 720p to 1080p in handheld mode. The game uses SMAA and AMD FSR 1 instead of DLSS, resulting in visible edge flickering and a lack of image clarity in some places.
The updates also affect controls, animation, and sound. Link moves more smoothly, the camera can be controlled with the right stick, and quick access to items makes equipment easier to use.
