Ori Creator Responds to Ori 3 Rumors and Points to Xbox’s Halo Failures

Moon Studios would like to regain control of the Ori franchise, according to studio head and series creator Thomas Mahler.

Both Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps earned strong reviews and built a dedicated fanbase. Some fans have been waiting for a new entry for years, and recent rumors gave them fresh hope.

Well-known gaming insider NateTheHate recently claimed that a “new Ori” is currently in development. However, he noted he does not have confirmed information on whether the project will be showcased at the upcoming Gamescom event.

Mahler responded to the online discussions on social media, stating that he knows nothing about a third Ori game:

A bunch of people are asking me again about Ori 3 because rumors are going around… As before: I haven’t heard anything about this.

The developer also took the opportunity to take a jab at Microsoft and Xbox:

I think after Microsoft invested billions into 343 Industries to make Halo, yet failed to bring back the old magic of the series, the company learned a lesson: the right people must work on such franchises, or you will inevitably just get more slop.

In addition, Mahler reiterated that Moon Studios continues to think about buying back the rights to the Ori IP:

I doubt any other studio can actually do anything with it, so it makes sense for the franchise to come back home to Moon!
