Nintendo has released a version of the Switch 2 featuring a replaceable battery to comply with new European Union regulations, and early owners have already torn down the console.

Nintendo has released an updated version of the Switch 2 featuring a replaceable battery, and early owners are already demonstrating how to swap it out and install higher-capacity alternatives.

Nintendo did not increase the performance of the Switch 2 or change the screen. The modification is tied to new European Union requirements, meaning the battery can now be replaced without sending the console in for service.

To access the battery, users must detach the Joy-Con 2 controllers, unscrew a few screws, and remove the back panel. Once this is done, the battery can be replaced. The process requires basic skills and the proper tools.

Players are already taking advantage of the new design to install higher-capacity batteries. Based on available confirmation, this increases playtime by roughly one hour. As a result, a design change mandated by EU regulations has also proven beneficial for console owners.
