Valve continues to captivate gamers with its latest hardware — the Steam Machine. Company engineer Yazan Aldhayyat says the device will arrive at a highly competitive price compared with assembling a similarly equipped PC yourself.
If you were to build a PC with comparable performance and features, the Steam Machine would be the more economical choice and offer superior value for money. Its affordability is one of the reasons we consider the Steam Machine a sensible option right now.
Aldhayyat added that affordability has been a constant priority during hardware and feature development. That focus is crucial if Valve wants to market the Steam Machine both as a full-fledged PC and as a living-room device. Given the Steam Deck’s success and Steam’s wide user base, Valve can tolerate a modest price premium without losing consumer interest.
The Steam Machine features a semi-custom six-core AMD Zen 4 CPU (12 threads, up to 4.8 GHz), 16 GB of DDR5 RAM, and an RDNA3 GPU clocked up to 2.45 GHz with 8 GB of GDDR6 and 28 compute units. The 512 GB SSD configuration will be significantly less expensive than the 2 TB option.
The Steam Machine, the Steam Frame and the new Steam Controller are slated to launch together in early 2026.
