Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil Projected to Set Franchise Opening Record After Second Forecast Increase

Interest in the new Resident Evil adaptation continues to grow.

Box office projections for Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil film have increased again one week before its premiere. Box Office Theory analysts expect the movie to earn between $45 million and $60 million in theaters across the United States and Canada during its opening weekend.

This marks the second estimate increase in recent weeks. The film was previously projected to open between $35 million and $50 million, but interest in the project continues to rise.

Even the lower bound of the new forecast will allow the film to comfortably set a franchise record. The current best result belongs to Resident Evil: Afterlife, which grossed $26.65 million during its opening weekend in the United States and Canada in 2010.

Zach Cregger’s film tells a standalone story within the Resident Evil universe. Medical courier Brian, played by Austin Abrams, must deliver a donor organ to a Raccoon City hospital, but instead finds himself at the center of a fight for survival in a city gripped by a T-virus outbreak.

Resident Evil will premiere on September 18, 2026.
