Buyers will be offered a complete game.

A new entry in the StarCraft franchise was announced at BlizzCon 2026. Initially, only a cinematic trailer was shown without any gameplay footage. It was known that the project is an open-world shooter, and a brief description of the debut promo was provided:

The sons and daughters of the Dominion answered the call when humanity needed them. They held the line bravely. Their sacrifice gave us another chance. Now it is your turn. Carry on their legacy. At any cost.

Following the presentation, interviews began to emerge in which Creative Director Dan Hay, known for his work on recent numbered entries in the Far Cry series, revealed various details about the new title.

For instance, he confirmed that the new StarCraft will not be a “seasonal” game, stating that they will offer players a complete project with a strong focus on the story:

If I had to describe the general structure that we are currently envisioning, I would say it is a “box product” [meaning complete]. It is an open-world shooter with a focus on the story: players create a character, give them a name, and follow their journey. This story has a beginning, a middle, and an end.

Dan Hay also discussed his source of inspiration, mentioning the television series Deadwood:

One of the TV shows that hooked me was Deadwood. I loved all the characters, as well as how the creators built a sense of an entire universe and a massive world, even though the core of the story centered around a relatively small group of characters. At the same time, it felt like the world was much larger. I liked that they all knew each other, did not get along, but understood that to survive, they would have to rely on one another. And if we made something in the spirit of “Deadwood in space”… I think there is definitely something to a project like that.

Mick Gordon recently published a StarCraft teaser on social media. Players are speculating that the DOOM composer will write the music for the game.

The new StarCraft is expected to be released in 2030.
