A recently uncovered PS5 save-game exploit may be far more versatile than initially thought, potentially extending beyond a single title.
According to findings shared by X user DesignerLeake, who has been documenting the vulnerability within Star Wars Racer Revenge, several other PS2-emulated titles could serve as alternative entry points for the exploit.
The hack leverages the “mast1c0re” mechanism—a known vulnerability in PS4 and PS5 save-game handling that allows the execution of custom PS2 code and applications. Developer Gezine clarified that this specific iteration is currently restricted to disc-based PS5 consoles running firmware 12.00, meaning digital-only versions remain unaffected.
DesignerLeake pointed out that Star Wars Racer Revenge is not the only viable vector. Research conducted in 2023 demonstrated that the mast1c0re framework could be adapted for a variety of other games with similar architectural flaws.
The list of potentially compatible titles includes:
- LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
- Carol Vorderman’s Sudoku
- OKAGE: Shadow King
- Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
- Jak X: Combat Racing
These games share a common technical oversight: improper data validation that allows memory to be overwritten via excessively long profile names, file names, or save data. Since many of these vulnerabilities have already been demonstrated on both PS4 and PS5, it highlights a recurring systemic issue in how these legacy titles are handled, rather than an isolated software glitch.
