Microsoft is reportedly preparing a negative change for Windows 11 gamers

Starting next month, Microsoft will begin enabling the memory integrity feature in Windows 11 on a larger number of devices, while warning that it can reduce gaming performance.

This kernel-level security protection blocks the execution of malicious code and drivers. At the same time, Microsoft acknowledges that it affects gaming performance on certain hardware configurations.

Microsoft program manager Peter Waxman explained that Windows updates will enable memory integrity on eligible devices alongside Virtualization-based Security when necessary.

The feature permits only trusted kernel code and drivers to run. Newer processors typically experience less impact, whereas older systems may see a noticeable drop in frame rates in individual games.

If a user previously disabled the protection manually, an update will not turn it back on automatically. Users can check the status of the feature and change the setting in the Windows Security app. Microsoft recommends turning the protection back on after finishing a gaming session.
