New Gundam Anime Directed by Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Director to Release in April 2027

Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO will serve as a prequel to the upcoming mecha action game Gundam Rogue Orbit.

Bandai Namco has revealed the release window for the anime Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, with the new series in the franchise scheduled to premiere in April 2027.

XARX-ZERO will act as a prequel to the action role-playing mecha game Gundam Rogue Orbit, depicting events that took place roughly one hundred years before the game. Gundam Rogue Orbit will launch ahead of the anime, with its release planned for March 5, 2027.

In the world of XARX-ZERO, a mysterious interstellar object gave humanity technologies for gravity control, faster-than-light communication, and cognitive materialization. In less than ten years, however, the object spun out of control and spawned an aggressive, self-replicating ecosystem known as Apocalypse. After three months of combat, humans were forced to abandon Earth and resettle on the Moon and space colonies.

The main storyline will begin 44 years later. The narrative centers on Rei Azumi, who lost his parents during an attack by Apocalypse. He becomes the pilot of Gundam Zero, a cutting-edge experimental mobile suit created to fight the tyranny of Apocalypse.

XARX-ZERO is being produced by SOLA ANIMATION, with planning handled by Sunrise. Kenji Kamiyama, director of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, is directing the series and overseeing series composition. Writer Toh EnJoe is supervising the sci-fi concept, Eiichi Shimizu designed Gundam Zero, and Go Shiina is composing the music.
