New Expansion for The Witcher 3 Will Require Modern Hardware

A new story expansion titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past will be showcased at Gamescom in the coming days. The add-on will release exclusively on modern platforms, skipping the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the original Nintendo Switch.

The expansion is intended to serve as the final continuation of Geralt’s story and potentially act as a bridge leading into the franchise’s next installment. A full reveal will take place at Gamescom 2026.

Songs of the Past is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Owners of previous-generation consoles will need to upgrade their hardware to continue the White Wolf’s adventures.

Technical limitations could also impact some PC players. Developers across the industry are gradually dropping support for Windows 10 in favor of Windows 11. Even though games still run well on the older operating system, future patches and updates could introduce compatibility issues. It remains unclear whether Songs of the Past will officially end support for Windows 10.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past is planned for release in 2027.
