New Details Revealed About Pokémon Pokopia — Game Changes Console and Concept, Insider Says

Pokémon Pokopia is shaping up to be one of the most distinctive upcoming entries in the Pokémon franchise. The title is targeted for a 2026 release on the Nintendo Switch 2. Early reports indicate it’s a spin-off that lets players build their own region in the Pokémon world instead of exploring a predesigned one.

However, new information suggests Pokopia’s development history stretches back further than previously thought.

According to recent leaks, the project was originally being developed for the first Nintendo Switch. Sources tied to “Teraleak” claim development began in 2021 under the working name Oasis. The concept was intended as a spiritual successor to Pokémon: Let’s Go, featuring a top-down perspective and integration with Pokémon Home, but the title was shelved before entering full production.

Game Freak later revived the idea under the codename MegaOasis and retooled it for the Switch 2. The core mechanic of crafting a personal region was retained, while the scope and visual ambitions were significantly expanded. Development is reportedly handled by Omega Force, known for the Warriors Orochi and Hyrule Warriors series. It seems Pokopia has evolved considerably and could become one of the most experimental Pokémon spin-offs yet.
