Modern Warfare 4 Will Officially Be the First Call of Duty on Nintendo Switch

After a hiatus spanning nearly 13 years, the Call of Duty franchise is finally making its grand return to Nintendo hardware. The upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, slated for an October launch, will arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2, joining the already confirmed versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.

Activision officially unveiled Modern Warfare 4 this Thursday, reaffirming that the title will skip legacy hardware, specifically the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This milestone release marks the franchise’s debut on a Nintendo platform since 2013, effectively fulfilling a promise made in 2022 to bring the series back to the Nintendo ecosystem.

Back in December 2022, former Xbox chief Phil Spencer announced a decade-long commitment to keep Call of Duty accessible on Nintendo platforms following the monumental merger between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard King. The initiative underscored a broader goal: ensuring high-profile titles reach the widest possible audience, regardless of their preferred gaming hardware.

At the time, Microsoft also pledged to maintain simultaneous Call of Duty releases on Steam and Xbox consoles. These strategic guarantees were largely designed to appease regulators across the U.S., U.K., and E.U. as they scrutinized the massive $68.7 billion acquisition.

The last time a Nintendo console hosted a Call of Duty entry was in 2013 with Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Wii U, and the series has notably skipped the Nintendo Switch entirely. That drought concludes on October 23, when Modern Warfare 4 arrives on Switch 2, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X.
