Microsoft denies rumors of the “death” of the Forza Motorsport series

Amid Microsoft’s high-profile reveals, including Halo: Campaign Evolved, fans have raised questions about the future of other franchises — notably Perfect Dark, after The Coalition was shut down along with its project, and the status of Forza Motorsport.

In an interview, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer was asked whether the series had been “cancelled.” His answer was clear: “No!” He explained that the company sometimes prioritizes projects that are nearer to release, temporarily shifting resources, and acknowledged the community’s reaction to staff reductions at Turn 10 Studios.

“There are many games we want to continue supporting. Occasionally we give studios extra time to avoid placing them under constant pressure.”

Earlier reports indicated Turn 10’s workforce was reduced by nearly 50% during Microsoft’s most recent round of layoffs. The studio is currently assisting with the development of Forza Horizon 6 and working on a PlayStation 5 port that is planned to arrive after the Xbox Series X/S and PC releases.

Whether Forza Motorsport will make a comeback remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Forza Horizon 6 is scheduled for release in 2026 and will, for the first time, transport players to Japan — featuring tracks in Tokyo and at the base of Mount Fuji.
