Metal Gear Solid 5 Modder Adds New Content and Mechanics for Game’s Anniversary
An enthusiast set out to enhance a beloved game.
This year fans celebrated an anniversary for Metal Gear Solid 5. Joining the festivities, a modder who goes by mohtalgear revealed an ambitious overhaul:
“Preparing for The Phantom Pain’s tenth anniversary, I’ve spent the past six months researching and modding the game to introduce truly fresh content — new weapons — and to bring meaningful changes to how it plays.”
mohtalgear added playable versions of Quiet and Ocelot; their distinct traits are reflected in gameplay — for instance, the heroine understandably cannot perform interrogations.
Other characters retain the ability to interrogate enemies, and the modder has refined that system: “Interrogate an enemy once to receive a random support weapon. Interrogate again to obtain a random item — the more guards you question, the broader the selection.”
He also implemented a “dynamic revenge” mechanic, which “can make any mission, including the first, brutally difficult if you charge in headlong.”
If the player triggers combat or captures an outpost while in the combat phase, guards at other outposts and command posts will upgrade their equipment.
The Definitive Subsistence Update mod is available for free on Nexus Mods.
