Bad Ridge Games has released a substantial update for Mirthwood, a life-sim RPG inspired by Stardew Valley. The Foundations patch serves as the culmination of a series of major updates and brings a more lifelike feel to the world.
The most notable change is the introduction of NPC mortality. Characters can now perish as a consequence of the player’s choices. If the protagonist ignores or fails a dangerous quest, the NPC connected to that storyline may die — and a new resident will move into town.
The update also adds four pets available for purchase on the farm — they occasionally gather resources and assist in defending the homestead from thieves and rats. Alongside them, random bandit raids and pest infestations can now occur.
Mirthwood now features three festivals that award unique decorative prizes, plus over 35 events that appear along main roads and influence the hero’s travels.
