Media Falls for Mega64 Fake PlayStation 6 Announcement Rumor

The Mega64 channel pranked gamers and gaming media outlets by promising a major PlayStation announcement and then releasing a fake PS6 trailer featuring a console that does not exist.

Ahead of the prank, comedy troupe Mega64 and its member Rocco Botte stated that Sony was preparing an announcement so major it would overshadow Nintendo’s upcoming presentation. The message quickly spread across social media, and several gaming websites began discussing a potential PS6 announcement or a shift in Sony’s policy regarding physical games.

Mega64 subsequently published a video titled “PS6 Hardware Reveal Trailer.” The clip showed standard and digital versions of the PS6, but both consoles turned out to be invisible. In the finale, the creators claimed to be holding the real PS6 before revealing only empty space.

The video ridicules Sony’s move away from physical media. Mega64 explicitly noted that the release was a humorous video.
