Left 4 Dead RTX Remaster Tested on RTX 5080 vs. Original — FPS Dropped 13×
A modder has refreshed a Valve classic — but the improved visuals come with an FPS penalty.
The Left 4 Dead franchise continues to draw players. Some are content with its original graphics, while others have been hoping for a modern visual upgrade.
Recently, a modder released an “RTX remaster” for Left 4 Dead — using NVIDIA tools they implemented path tracing in the shooter.
The creator behind the YouTube channel MxBenchmarkPC tested the mod and compared it to the original. The tests were run on a PC fitted with an RTX 5080.
The unmodded Left 4 Dead runs at roughly 500–600 FPS, whereas the RTX-enhanced build typically runs at 40–50 FPS. Enabling NVIDIA DLSS 4 and Frame Generation can, however, push frame rates past 120 FPS.
