Leak Reveals Why Rockstar Fired Dozens of GTA 6 Developers

Rockstar Games is embroiled in a major controversy: 34 developers on GTA 6 have been let go. The company officially cites “disclosure of confidential information,” while employees claim the dismissals were retaliation for efforts to organize a union. The case has already reached the courts, and worker protests are sparking debate across the games industry.

According to People Make Games, the firings are linked to the studio accessing messages on a private Discord server where, since 2022, staff discussed working conditions, the company Slack, and overall morale. A whistleblower said they “do not recall any instance of leaked data about GTA 6 or other projects.”

The dispute began after changes were made to Slack. Rockstar closed unofficial channels, calling them “distracting” and “a source of poor conduct.” Some employees reposted messages to Discord so colleagues could view them. The company gained access to the server, identified participants, and accused them of violations.

The dismissals affected experienced GTA 6 developers. The project has already been delayed twice, and the loss of specialists could influence the release timetable.
