Katsuhiro Harada, director and producer of the Tekken franchise, clarified recent remarks about paid livestreams. A quote from an interview circulated online and was interpreted as suggesting plans to put the Tekken World Tour finals behind a paywall.

Harada said his words had been taken out of context:

I never explicitly said I wanted to make the stream paid, nor did I seriously consider doing that.

In the interview he was asked about Capcom’s decision to charge for tournament broadcasts.

He observed that some events “charge viewers for access or something similar” and said he finds those models “quite interesting.” He emphasized that the Tekken World Tour “was never intended to be part of our commercial operations.”

The remarks came amid the competitive season for Tekken 8. The Tekken World Tour 2025 finals are scheduled to take place in Malmö, Sweden, in early 2026.
