Jane Schoenbrun Wants to Direct New A Nightmare on Elm Street Movie

Two separate versions of a Freddy Krueger franchise reboot are currently in simultaneous development.

Jane Schoenbrun wants to direct one of the new takes on A Nightmare on Elm Street. The director of the horror film I Saw the TV Glow acknowledged that they are trying to secure a meeting with the project’s producers:

“I’m trying to get a meeting about that A Nightmare on Elm Street. I would love to do that.”

Schoenbrun’s interest goes beyond simply working with a well-known franchise. Back in the fifth grade, they spent an entire month watching every Freddy Krueger film and have since considered A Nightmare on Elm Street to be the primary inspiration for their own horror projects.

It remains unclear precisely who Schoenbrun hopes to meet with because two separate film adaptations are currently in development in parallel. Paramount is handling one version after acquiring the rights to Wes Craven’s original screenplay, while Warner Bros. is preparing its own take with the international rights to the franchise. No details are currently available for either project, and an upcoming merger between the two studios creates additional uncertainty.
