Tyson Green promises that Renegades will set things right.

In a recent interview, Destiny 2 game director Tyson Green outlined the causes behind the problems with the Edge of Fate expansion. He said the team attempted to deepen systems for hardcore players — new gear tiers, revamped armor stats, and set bonuses — but that approach resulted in tedious grinding, player frustration, and a decline in the online population.

“On paper it all looked excellent, but in practice it failed to deliver. We learned some tough lessons about what our players actually want. They don’t want to chase ever-growing numbers — they want meaningful rewards.”

Assistant director Robbie Stevens added that the team “went too far” and “changed too much, too fast.”

Green says the Renegades update will correct those mistakes.

The Star Wars–inspired expansion, featuring blasters and lightsabers, will be available on December 2.
