Insomniac Fails to Explain Logan’s Telepathic Link to Jean Grey in Marvel’s Wolverine
A controversial game mechanic has already sparked numerous jokes.
Discussion has erupted around Marvel’s Wolverine regarding one of its navigation features: visual scent trails that Logan can see thanks to his enhanced senses. Many critics dislike that the game literally “holds your hand.” A reviewer for The Washington Post even referred to the trail as “Jean Grey’s flatulence.”

When a user on social media asked why the scent trails cannot be disabled through a separate accessibility setting, Insomniac Games community and marketing director James Stevenson explained the purpose of the mechanic. According to him, the trails represent canonical enhanced senses and Wolverine’s exceptional tracking abilities.
The scent trail isn’t always on. It only appears when Logan is tracking a specific scent or sound—a person, whiskey, or another clue. This happens during specific story and mission moments, as well as when the character smells a collectible item.
However, players did not accept this explanation. People believe that such pointers should not exist in a linear game and that developers should not treat players as unintelligent.
Why even add hidden secrets to the game if you can then easily find them by scent?
Do you really think we lack critical thinking? Or is this just another example of Netflix-style game design intended for the mentally handicapped?
