How to find Mordrag in Gothic 1 Remake
Tracking down Mordrag in the Gothic 1 Remake is a surprisingly lucrative endeavor. Beyond checking off a vital early-game objective to gain favor with the Old Camp’s leadership, finding him serves as a gateway to a free escort service to the New Camp, yielding a significant bounty of experience and loot along the way. He is a character you definitely don’t want to overlook.
Here is your guide on where to locate Mordrag and the best methods for navigating the “Out of Sight” quest.
How to initiate the “Out of Sight” quest
Although he is affiliated with the New Camp, you’ll initially find Mordrag operating as a fence near the Old Camp. To trigger his specific questline, track down Thorus, the castle guard. Persist in asking him for work until he officially assigns you the “Out of Sight” task. The objective is simple: ensure Mordrag leaves the Old Camp and never returns, though the method—diplomatic or violent—is entirely up to you.
Pinpointing Mordrag’s location
To reach Mordrag, start at the entrance to the Old Camp’s castle, standing near Thorus’ post across from the northern gate. Follow the perimeter of the castle wall in a clockwise direction. You will pass the arena and Snaf the cook as you traverse the inner sanctum.

You’ll find Mordrag idling on a bench on the right side of the path, situated directly across from the Old Camp’s south gate. He is positioned just before the large, draped campfire area frequented by figures like Dexter, Fisk, and Baal Parvez.

Once you’ve located him, you can browse his inventory for essentials like lockpicks, arrows, and provisions. If you prefer a more aggressive approach, you can confront him by choosing the dialogue option, “This camp is too small for the two of us.” Defeating him in combat allows you to pilfer his belongings—most notably his ring, a longbow, and a stinging mace. Once bested, force him to promise he won’t return to the Old Camp to fulfill Thorus’ request.
Alternatively, you can choose the peaceful route by asking him to escort you to the New Camp. Select the prompts: “You have a problem,” “Say I wanted to join you guys,” and finally, “Take me to the New Camp.” Mordrag will act as a powerful bodyguard, clearing out monsters along the journey and granting you all the experience points from his kills. Upon arrival, he will gift you his ring as a gesture of goodwill. This fulfills the quest requirements without spilling blood, though Thorus may be slightly less impressed by your soft-hearted approach.
Mordrag’s ring provides a handy +5 bonus to dexterity. However, consider holding onto it; you can present the ring to the gate guards at the New Camp to gain an audience with Lares, the faction’s leader. Once relocated, Mordrag can be found hanging out in the tavern built over the lake.
