Marvel’s Wolverine Sales in Japan Fell Significantly Short of Spider-Man’s
Logan failed to repeat Spider-Man’s success in Japan as Wolverine launched with weaker physical sales than any previous Marvel game by Insomniac.
Marvel’s Wolverine sold 20,039 physical copies in Japan during its first week, falling significantly short of the launch figures for Insomniac Games’ previous Marvel titles.
For comparison, Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 debuted with 125,154 copies, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PS5 launched with 77,348, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5 and PS4 reached 41,522. Wolverine finished last in this comparison.
The difference is especially notable when compared to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as both games launched exclusively on the PS5, yet Wolverine sold less than a third of the sequel’s total. Famitsu data tracks physical sales only and does not include digital purchases.
Several factors may have influenced the result, including a smaller PS5 install base in Japan compared to the PS4 era and the popularity of the Nintendo Switch 2. Spider-Man also remains one of the most popular Marvel heroes in Japan and worldwide, although Wolverine is likewise among the publisher’s best-known characters.

The game has received generally positive reviews, though certain gameplay elements faced criticism. The current data covers only the first week of sales.
