Microsoft Simplifies Transferring Disc Games to Digital Library on Xbox

Xbox has updated its disc-to-digital system. Now, after launching a supported game from a disc and signing into a profile, the digital license is automatically linked to the account.

Microsoft continues to develop the feature that allows users to transfer certain physical games to their digital library. Players no longer need to go through an additional procedure after launching a supported game from a disc.

When obtaining a digital license for the first time, Xbox will show a detailed explanation of how the system works. For subsequent games, it will display only a standard notification, making the process faster and more convenient.

The main principle remains unchanged. Once activated, the digital license stays tied to the physical copy of the game. Because of this, used discs cannot be sold or given away, and Microsoft recommends keeping the disc since it is required to maintain the game in the digital library.

The feature works with select physical versions of Xbox One and Xbox Series X games. Availability depends on technical, licensing, publishing, and production conditions. Xbox 360 and original Xbox discs are not supported yet.
