Hacker Claims Jailbreak of New PS5 Firmware 14.20 Eight Hours After Release
The standoff between hackers and Sony continues, with a new PS5 firmware reportedly exploited hours after its release.
Not long ago, a hacker going by gezine_dev claimed to have found a vulnerability in what was then the current firmware, version 14.10.00. According to the source, that firmware version is required to run Grand Theft Auto VI. Sony soon responded with a new firmware release, version “26.07-14.20.00.”
Tech enthusiasts were quick to answer. Shortly after the update came out, a user named fuleretruts reported that a new vulnerability had been found:
It took Sony two days to release a patch. Hackers bypassed the protection in just 8 hours. A hacker going by master_s9 published an exploit for PS5 firmware version 14.20, Sony’s latest update. Sony released this version two days after the vulnerability in 14.10 was discovered, but even that speed wasn’t enough. The new firmware was cracked in record time. The PS5 continues to attract attention from both developers and hackers. The cat-and-mouse game goes on.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. By then, Sony may release at least one more firmware update to strengthen the console’s security.
