GTA and RDR Creator Dan Houser Reveals His Vision for the Future of the Industry
There will still be room for creativity, even if many concentrate on profit.
Recently, Rockstar Games co‑founder Dan Houser appeared on the show “Sunday Brunch.” The writer behind Red Dead Redemption and GTA was asked where the games industry is headed.
Houser sees two possible directions:
You know, it could head in a really interesting direction, or it could tilt toward an approach where everything is focused on making money. I think with any commercial art there’s always the danger of being distracted by money. Still, there’s a sizable creative scene for producing vivid, narrative-driven projects.
However, Dan Houser didn’t “pick a single winner” — in his view, both strands of the industry will coexist:
I think both paths will win. I believe there will be two routes. We’ve already seen this in certain parts of the games industry, where both approaches seem to thrive.
