Gothic Remake Developers Want to Give Players “Maximum Variety of Options”

The creators of the cult RPG remake vow that players will genuinely be able to inhabit any role.

With 2026 drawing near — a year expected to bring a surge of major releases — the Gothic remake remains one of the most eagerly awaited titles. At Barcelona Game Fest, journalists spoke with developers from Alkimia Interactive about how the team is widening the range of choices available to players.

Lead game designer Javier Untoria said:

“We want to give players real freedom of action. We’re refining melee, magic, and ranged combat. This is an open-world action RPG where you can go wherever you like, speak to anyone, and every decision carries weight. We’re working to offer the broadest possible variety of options.”

Untoria added that choices won’t be limited to the obvious — even individual dialogue lines will shape how the protagonist is perceived.

“When we design a decision point, we consider how many different ways to solve the problem we want to provide. Players will always find their own path. You can play through honourably or choose to lie — we leave every option on the table.”

Against a backdrop of growing appetite for deep, consequence-driven role‑playing games, Alkimia Interactive’s direction appears entirely sensible.
