Gothic Remake Developers Improve Combat System — New Gameplay Shown and Compared to August Demo
Community feedback is being taken into account during the game’s development.
The team behind the Gothic remake published a development diary focused on the combat system and shared several clips showcasing character movement. Since August, they’ve tweaked certain mechanics and introduced new animations.
The developers outlined the following changes:
- The wind-up animation has been shortened; a small pre-attack delay has been removed.
- Combos now only register when the correct attack button is pressed.
- At tiers above “untrained” players can interrupt wind-up or recovery after a strike by dodging or blocking.
- It is now possible to perform a dodge while blocking.
- The lock-on camera has been improved and now keeps the enemy more clearly in view.
- The player character no longer slides during attacks; proper attack animations have been added.
- Finishers have been introduced to end combo chains and can knock opponents to the ground.
- Certain specific attacks can now knock the player character off their feet.
- A new set of animations has been added for the two-handed sword master.
The remake’s creators noted that work on AI and combat is ongoing. For example, they are currently investigating which attacks should be blockable and which should not.
The Gothic remake is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2026.
