Gamers Find Way to Beat Modern Warfare 4 Developer Records
Players quickly shattered the developers’ records on a custom Modern Warfare 4 course built to test the new movement system.
The course was originally used by the Infinity Ward team to test and refine movement mechanics. Over time, the developers turned it into a competition by recording runs, analyzing them frame by frame, and trying to improve their results.
A real competition flared up in the studio. We had developers recording their screens and then going back through the footage frame by frame, trying to improve their times.

Once the course was opened to players, the developers’ records started falling fast. The community found optimizations that the creators did not anticipate. For example, players learned how to perform multiple actions simultaneously, such as reloading weapons while jumping over obstacles.
These techniques save fractions of a second, which is especially important when competing for the best time. Infinity Ward was not upset by this. Instead, the developers gained insight into how players use the new movement system. One of the goals was to create a mechanic that allows skilled players to hone their skills while still maintaining a more tactical style of play.
