Former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden says getting Sony, FromSoftware and its parent company to agree may be the main obstacle to a Bloodborne sequel or remake.

More than 10 years have passed since the original Bloodborne was released, and fans have long hoped for a sequel. Although several older games have received updated versions for PlayStation 5, FromSoftware’s game has yet to receive an upgrade or an official PC port.

Players recently drew attention to an interview with Layden, the former president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America. Speaking to the creator of the YouTube channel The Trophy Room: A PlayStation Show, Layden was asked why there is no Bloodborne 2 or remake of the original.

Layden explained that a project like that would require an agreement not only with FromSoftware, but also with its parent company:

Can you make something that not only respects the original, but can also replicate that same phenomenon? There are a lot of rights involved in this project. In a situation like this, with Sony, FromSoftware and its parent company [Kadokawa] involved, I think the main problem is probably getting all the parties to agree.

Bloodborne has found a second life through the ShadPS4 emulator, which lets players run the FromSoftware game on PC. Modders have also released various improvements for it. Advances in AI technology have provided another option: tech enthusiasts have assembled an unofficial PC port.
